SAN FRANCISCO — Missy Peterson meets a lot of fans and students as a star for the Washington women's hoops team. Most have one question ready to go — How did you make that incredible shot in Las Vegas last March?

With 2.3 seconds remaining and a chance at a massive quarterfinal upset at last year's Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament over Oregon State, Peterson drained a clutch 3-pointer to knock off the third-seeded team.

So the questions come. And Peterson is more than happy to recount that moment whenever asked.

"I wish I could relive that moment a million times," Peterson said Monday at 2019 Pac-12 Women's Basketball Media Day. "I was numb. I was in shock. ... But the feeling of proving so many people wrong, and doing something that not a lot of people thought we could do, that was my favorite part about it."

The Huskies, who return 85 percent of their scoring, added that the upset win paid big dividends during spring and summer workouts this offseason. Washington has a chance to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016.

"A lot of confidence was gained," remarked third-year head coach Jodyn Wynn. "It ignited an incredible work ethic for our players to be able to taste success again in this upcoming season.”

Not only does Washington bring that tournament momentum into this season, they return a prolific scorer Amber Melgoza, who Wynn praised as "just as strong as any off-guard in the country."

Melgoza, the senior guard, led the Huskies in rebounding (4.3 per game) and assists (2.8 per game) last season. She also scored 18.1 points per game as a dynmaic offensive threat. As a sophomore, she dropped a career-high 40 points against Stanford.

To boot, Wynn said Melgoza recently deadlifted 341 points. Seriously.

"She’s a beast," Wynn said without hesitation. "She’s a talented basketball player."
