LOS ANGELES – No. 9 UCLA (24-4, 13-4) got back in the win column Friday evening, taking a 62-52 victory over Colorado (16-12, 5-12) at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. The Bruins outrebounded and outscored the Buffs in the paint, controlling the pace of play en route to the 10-point win.

Michaela Onyenwere led the Bruins with 16 points and nine rebounds on the night, going 7-for-16 from the field. Freshman Camryn Brown had her finest scoring performance in her young career, tallying eight points on 4-for-6 shooting. The Buffs were led by Mya Hollingshed, who lead all scores with 22 points.

The Bruins attacked the paint early and picked up a three baskets in the paint, with an additional couple free throws from Charisma Osborne making it a 9-2 game after the first three minutes. Japreece Dean followed with her own driving layup, but the Buffs answered right back with consecutive close-range baskets (11-6). After a 3-ball from Natalie Chou, Dean grabbed a steal and dribbled the length of the floor before finding Camryn Brown in transition for the easy two (4:22). The teams exchanged baskets before Onyenwere scored the team's sixth bucket in the paint, giving UCLA a 20-8 lead that would hold through the end of the frame. Onyenwere led all scores with eight in the first 10 minutes.

The teams exchanged baskets to open the second quarter before a pair of free throws from Chou made it a 14-point game (8:53). After the Buffs cut it to 24-16 at the 6:31 mark, the Bruins answered with four-straight, including a slick teardrop floater from Dean to extend the advantage back to 12. CU continued to chip away, as Quinessa Caylao-Do and Peanut Tuitele answered with consecutive baskets to make it 28-20. The eight-point lead would hold as the Bruins took a 31-23 lead into the break. Onyenwere reached double figures with 10 in the first half, adding four rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.

A pair of Hollingshed free throws cut the Bruins' lead to six (33-27) at the 8:17 mark in the third quarter, but UCLA responded with a quick 7-0 run capped by Osborne's first triple of the evening and a driving lay-in from Dean. After the teams exchanged long balls (45-30), Colorado cut the deficit to 10 after a pair of free throws from Aubrey Knight. A jumper from Brown was answered by a layup from Charlotte Whittaker for CU at the other end, and the Bruins took a 48-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

Brown opened the fourth quarter with a lay-in to extend the lead to 12, but four-straight points from CU made it a 50-42 game at the 8:29 mark. Hollingshed made it a seven point game with a triple a few minutes later, but Dean answered with another bucket in the paint to make it 56-47 (4:38). Neither team scored for over two minutes, with the Bruins then rattling off four-straight to go up 11 with 1:15 to play. Hollingshed hit another long ball, but a jumper from Onyenwere with 37 seconds left iced the game away and solidified the final score of 62-52.
