The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation announced on Thursday that UCLA defensive back Quentin Lake has been named to the Watch List for the 17th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy. IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. The award will be presented on Dec. 17 at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach.
Lake saw action in four games last season and started three times at safety for the Bruins. He recorded a season-best seven stops against Oklahoma and had six tackles at Cincinnati. In 2018, he started all 12 contests and registered nine tackles in his first career start against Cincinnati. Lake had interceptions in back-to-back games against Arizona and Utah. He was named a 2018 second-team Academic All-Pac-12 selection. In 2017, Lake appeared in nine games as freshman. He has earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll in Fall 2017, Spring 2018 and Winter 2019.
UCLA boasts two previous winners of the Lott IMPACT Trophy as linebackers Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks were the recipients in 2013 and 2014, respectively. The 42 student-athletes who make up the 2020 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List come from 41 different schools. Only defending National Champion LSU has two candidates. This year's Watch List has 16 linebackers, 15 defensive backs and 11 defensive linemen.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy, which has raised more than $1.6 million for scholarships and other youth-related charities throughout the country, is the only major college football award where the character of the nominee is considered.
