Hodgkins Advances To CGA Match Play Championship; Will Face Former Buff Erin Houtsma
FIRESTONE, Colo. — It will be Buff vs. Buff in the finals of the 105th CGA Women's Match Play Championship Thursday at Saddleback Golf Course as University of Colorado senior Kirsty Hodgkins will face former Buff Erin (Kerr) Houtsma.
Hodgkins won the stroke play qualifier on Monday by shooting a 7-under 65 and earned the top-seed in the tournament. She recorded a 6&4 win in the first round against Tabitha Diehl on Tuesday, before recording a victory in 19 holes later that afternoon against No. 8 Katie Berrian. In the semi-finals on Wednesday, Hodgkins recorded a 3&1 win against No. 12 Ashley Kozlowski.
Houtsma was the third seed in the tournament after recording a 1-under 71 in the stroke play qualifier. She defeated Sofia Choi in the first round (1 up) and earned a 4&3 win against Aubri Braecklein in the second round. Houtsma recorded another 4&3 victory during semi-final play Wednesday afternoon against second-seeded Erin Sargent.
Junior Kelsey Webster also played in the tournament. She earned a No. 13 seed and lost her first round match 3&1 to the defending champion, Mary Weinstein. In the consolation bracket second round, Webster narrowly lost her match (1 up) to Emma Bryant.
There is another connection to the Buffs at the CGA Championship. Kristine Franklin, the 2019 Senior Match Play Champion, is married to CU associate head women's golf coach Brent Frankin. She has won the last three CGA women's senior majors and is looking to extend her streak on Thursday.
The championship final between Hodgkins and Houtsma will consist of 36 holes. The first round will start at 7:30 a.m. The second 18 is set to begin at 12:09 p.m. The senior championships final is slated for a 9:18 a.m. start.
