Caroline Corzel Named Assistant Coach

Aug 5, 2020
Carolina Corzel is returning to her alma mater to become an assistant coach.

BERKELEY – Head coach Brooke Eubanks announced Wednesday that Caroline Corzel has agreed to become an assistant coach with the Golden Bears. Corzel spent four seasons as a lacrosse student-athlete at Cal from 2016-19 before serving as an assistant coach at Quinnipiac in 2020, where her first season of collegiate coaching was cut short after seven games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I am thrilled to have Caroline coming back to Cal," Eubanks said. "She has gained experience and knowledge while away from Berkeley and proven to be a great lacrosse mind. Caroline will have an immediate impact on our team and continue to help us grow into better students, athletes and people. There is no one else out there we could have brought in who has more loyalty, knowledge and passion for the Cal lacrosse program than Caroline."

"I am extremely excited to return to Cal," said Corzel, who is filling a position vacated by Paige Soenksen after she accepted an offer to attend Air Force Officer Training School. "I would like to thank the University of California, Cal Athletics and coach Eubanks for the opportunity to coach at Cal. I am looking forward to learning from coach Eubanks and coach [Denise] Wescott, and adding to the success of the program. It is an honor to coach at my alma mater and in the Pac-12 Conference."

Corzel had a record-setting season as a team captain in her final campaign as a student-athlete in Berkeley in 2019, starting all 19 games and taking a single-season school record 127 shots while scoring 40 points (34 goals, 6 assists) to rank second on the squad. Corzel scored a career-high-tying five goals against Colorado, while adding four in wins over UC Davis and Arizona State. She also had five goals and a career-high seven points in a win over the Aggies as a 2017 sophomore. Corzel finished her career at Cal with 93 points on 80 goals and 13 assists over 56 games played and 31 starts. She took 271 career shots including 179 on goal with her average of 4.84 shots per game the most in school history.

"We are so excited to have Caroline back at Cal to coach," senior Kamryn Lanier said. "Caroline was a great teammate, leader and attacker, and these skills will assist her in being an impactful coach. She will be a great addition to the coaching staff and will be committed to continuing the growth of Cal lacrosse. We can't wait to see all she accomplishes and we are lucky to have her."

Corzel was a prep standout at Merion Mercy Academy in Merion, Pa., where she is a member of the school's Blue and Gold Club Hall of Fame. Her honors included first-team All-American and Catholic Academy League MVP as a 2015 senior, as well as four consecutive Montgomery County All-Main Line selections. She led her team to Catholic Academy League titles in 2015 as well as her 2013 sophomore campaign while adding a share of the conference crown as a 2014 junior.
