Kepler Welcomes 10 for Upcoming Season

SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah cross country and track & field head coach Kyle Kepler announced the addition of 10 new members for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
 
Martina Conner, Morgan Jensen, Maddie Reed and Claire Rusovick will be part of the cross country team and run with the distance crew during the track & field seasons while Meghan Curtin, Kelise Davis, Delaney Gates, Makenna McCloy, Annie Murdock and Bailey Kealamakia will join as members of the track & field team.
 
Of the 10, Jensen, Kealamakia, McCloy and Murdock hail from the Beehive State while Reed and Rusovick are from neighboring Colorado. Davis, who transferred from Nevada after running an indoor season with the Wolfpack this past season, is from Arizona while Delaney Gates is from California. Connor joins the Utes all the way from New Zealand while Curtin comes to Utah as a grad transfer from Quinnipiac.

Prior to Utah:
Ran as a member of the Port Hills Athletic Club during her prep career ... claimed gold in the 5k at the New Zealand Championships with a time of 19:24 in the U18 race … also took bronze in the 3k twice in 2019 … finished the 2019 calendar year with six top-10 finishes.
 
Meghan Curtin
Gr. | Cohocton, N.Y. | Quinnipiac/Wayland-Cohocton HS

 
Prior to Utah:
Was a four-year letterwinner at Quinnipiac and graduated with a double-major in molecular biology and immunology while serving as a captain her senior year … a three time MAAC All-Academic recipient … wrapped up her cross country career racing in the NCAA Regionals with a mark of 21:52.3 in the 6k … claimed a pair of victories at the MAAC Indoor Championships in the 800m and as a member of the 4x800 team as a senior while leading the Bobcats to the MAAC Championship … ran a PR time of 2:11.14 in the 800m at the ECAC Championships as well … picked up a pair of top-5 finishes at the MAAC Outdoor Championships as a junior, taking fifth in the 800m and 3rd as part of the 4x800 squad … notched a personal best mark of 4:38.57 in the 1500m at the War Eagle Invitational.
 
High School:
Graduated Wayland-Cohocton High School in New York as the class Salutatorian and was an AP Scholar … was dominant in her prep career being a 37-time team and individual sectional champion … earned all-state honors in 2013 and 2014 and was an eight-time state medalist while leading WCHS to multiple sectional championships … helped guide eagles to the triple crown her sophomore season, winning the cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field titles … also played hockey in high school.
 
Personal:
Parents are Daniel and Michelle Curtin … has a younger sister Mackenzie … father ran cross country at Le Moyne …  helped maintain local hiking trails during her free time and serve as a volunteer coach teaching the basics of ice hockey … will be pursuing a masters in molecular biology.  
 
Kelise Davis • Sprints
So. | Chandler, Ariz. | Nevada

 
Prior to Utah:
Ran in four meets during the indoor season her freshman year at Nevada … took ninth in the 60m at the 2020 Bronco Invite in her first collegiate meet and placed seventh as part of the DMR squad at the Mountain West Indoor Championships.
 
High School:
Had a great senior season at Chandler High School, claiming the 400m title at the AIA Division I Championships with a PR and school record time of 54.84 and second in the 200m with a PR of mark of 24.50 … a member of the 4x400 team that captured victories at the 16th Annual Hohokam Invitational and Chandler City Meet in back-to-back weeks … spent her first three years at Coronado High School where she lettered in basketball and track & field … was also the Division 3 State Champion at CHS in the 400m.
 
Personal:
Parents are Kelly Davis and Andrea Martin … has an older sister, Kelli, and a younger brother, Zavier … uncle, Kelvin Davis, is a former IBF Cruiserweight Champion … majoring in kinesiology.
 
Delaney Gates
Fr.| Elk Grove, Calif. | Pleasant Grove HS
 
High School:
A four-year letterwinner at Pleasant Grove High School (CA) and captain on the track and field team … was ranked No. 1 in the long jump in both the Delta League and CIF Sac-Joaquin Section … also ran with the Trailblazers Track Club … earned academic excellence honors all four years at PGHS and a three-time community service award recipient … also a member of the cheerleading team for two years.
 
Personal:
Parents are Tony Gates and Ann Grottveit … has an older brother, Oliver … father was a track & field and football student-athlete at West Point and brother Oliver is a sophomore on the Sacramento State track and field team … works closely with the National Charity League … majoring in marketing.

 
Morgan Jensen
Fr. | Sandy, Utah | Alta HS
 
High School:
A four-year letter winner at Alta High School in cross country and track & field … took third in the 2019 Utah State 5A Cross Country Championship meet … guided the Hawks to five first-place finishes as a senior during the cross country season … placed fourth at the Utah State 5A Championship meet in the 3200 (11:11.24).
 
Personal:
Parents are Jim (Utah '94 & '96) and Rian (Utah '96) Jensen … has an older brother, Carter, and a younger brother, Gavin … works closely with TKJ Charities in Cottonwood Heights … currently undecided on major.

 
Bailey Kealamakia
Fr. | Kaysville, Utah | Davis HS
 
High School:
Had nine top-10 finishes during the indoor season and  four top-10 finishes her senior season before it was cut short due to Covid-19 … took first and registered PRs in both the 100m hurdles (15:07) and 300m hurdles (44.26) at the Utah Club State Championships in June of 2020 … helped lead DHS district championship and compiled 25 top-10 finishes during the indoor and outdoor seasons as a junior, including a first-place finish in the 300m hurdles at the State Region 1 Championships … also took second in the Region 1 Cross Country Championships her junior year in the 3 mile with a mark of 21:00.5 … racked up 14 top-10 finishes, including five top-5 finishes, while placing first in the 300m hurdles her sophomore year.
 
Personal:
Parents are Terry and Elizabeth Kealamakia … has two older sisters, Shelby and Ashley, and an older brother, Kelson … Parents Terry and Elizabeth and Ashley all ran track at Weber State and still hold indoor/outdoor records … major is undecided.

 
MaKenna McCloy

High School:
Ran as the anchor in 400 relay team as a sophomore at the Tooele County Schools Invitational … finished the season with a third-place finish in the 100m (12.52) and fourth-place finish in the 200m race at the 4A State Championship meet … also lettered on the soccer team, scoring compiling 34 goals during her career and a second-round appearance in the state championship tournament her freshman year.
 
Personal:
Parents are Scott McCloy and Shirley Stepan … has a younger sister, Tamika … mother Shirley and Ronald Stepan played basketball the University of Utah … majoring in psychology.

 
Annie Murdock

High School:
A three-sport star athlete and 2020 Valedictorian at Highlands High School in soccer, swim and track & field … was a captain in all three sports … an all-state recipient back-to-back seasons in soccer and track & field … guided the Rams to a regional track championship as a sophomore and was an all-city track champion her sophomore and junior years … ran a PR time of 56.45 in the 400m at the UHSAA State Track and Field Championships her sophomore year … was an academic all-region and all-state honoree in all three sports in 2019.
 
Personal:
Parents are Daniel and Adrianne Murdock … has two younger sisters, Katelyn and Meg … father played Lacrosse at BYU … works closely with the National Ability Center in Park City … certified as a registered pharmacy technician in high school … majoring in pre-pharmacy.

 
Maddie Reed
Fr. | Highlands Ranch, Colo. | Mountain Vista HS

 
High School:
Four-year letterwinner at Mountain Vista HS in both cross country and track & field … placed 10th at the CHSSA 5A State Cross Country Championships and followed up with a PR and 16th-place finish at the NXR Southwest Regional Championships with a mark of 17:43.7 … recorded personal bests at the CHSAA State Track and Field Championships with a sixth-place finish in the 1600m (5:07.59) and fourth-place finish in the 3200m (11:02.34) as a junior … is a two-time first-team all-state recipient in track while leading the Golden Eagles to league titles from 2016-18 as well as back-to-back regional and state titles in 2017 and 2018 … recipient of the STEM award from MVHS.
 
Personal:
Parents are Chris and Carrie Reed … has an older sister, Morgan, and a younger sister, Mia … father Chris ran cross country and Wisconsin-La Crosse while sister Morgan is a senior at Virginia Wesleyan this fall … majoring in civil engineering.
 
Claire Rusovick
Fr. | Westminster, Colo. | Mountain Range HS

 
High School:
Ran cross country and track & field at Mountain Range HS where she was on varsity all four years … was a first-team all-conference from 2017-19 … cross country career culminated with a winning her third-straight cross country state championship … took first-place in the 5k at the Rocky Mountain Lobo Invitational earlier in the year … claimed first in the 800m (Five Star Championships) and 1600m (Liberty Bell Invitational) before guiding Mustangs to the state championship as a junior during the track & field season … finished with nine top-10 finishes as a junior and eight as a sophomore … holds the school record in the 5k (18:17.4) and 1600m (5:10.27) … was a force in the classroom earning principal's honor roll all four years, academic all-state first team in cross country (2017-19) and the Marines Excellence in Academics and Athletics honor her senior year.
 
Personal:
Parents are Michael and Kathleen Rusovick … has an older sister, Tatum … majoring in design with an emphasis in animation.
