(Episode 15 – August 21, 2020)
Utes Insider – Yogi Roth, Pac-12 Networks football analyst
A lot has happened around the Pac-12 Conference in recent weeks, headlined by the postponement of athletics competition until January 1. To gain some perspective on what this means for Utah Athletics and the entire conference, Yogi Roth, football analyst for the Pac-12 Networks, joins host Mike Lageschulte for this edition of Utes Insider presented by Pepsi. Roth also gives his perspective on the Utah football program's growth since it joined the league in 2011 and what has allowed Kyle Whittingham to have sustained success at Utah.

The podcast can be heard on iTunes and YouTube. All Utah Athletics podcasts will be archived here.
During this show recorded on August 17, Roth shared his ideas on how the fall will take shape on Pac-12 campuses and how a spring football season could work. While several ideas for spring football have been floated, Roth has one of his own that fulfills several needs.

As someone who has spent a lot of time around the Utah football program as a game analyst and producer for his show The Drive on the Pac-12 Networks, Roth touched on the qualities his likes about Whittingham.

Roth, a native of Factoryville, Pa., walked on as a receiver at the University of Pittsburgh and eventually earning a scholarship as a wide receiver. After graduating magna cum laude and earning his master's degree in communication management from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, he rose through the coaching ranks, eventually becoming USC's assistant Quarterbacks Coach. After four years on the USC coaching staff he transitioned to media, where he began a career as a college football analyst and host for ESPN, Fox and the Pac-12 Networks.

Roth has directed, produced and starred in over 20 films around the globe in theatres, on television and digital platforms.

He co-wrote the book, Win Forever (2010) with Pete Carroll, which reached No. 7 on the New York Times best-seller list, as well as his own book, From PA to LA (2010). In 2011, he was a producer on Depth Chart, an ESPN series that followed the Miami Hurricanes and their quarterbacks during training camp.

Roth also hosted and produced the Elite 11 documentary series for ESPN from 2009-2014 (which was nominated for an Emmy in 2013), and in 2015, directed Dear Football: The 2015 Elite 11 Story, which followed several high school quarterbacks on and off the field.

He currently serves as a producer and narrator on the Pac-12 Network's series The Drive, which follows a football program throughout a season.

Roth has been an on-air correspondent for Entertainment Tonight, is a regular on the speaking circuit for corporate, collegiate and high school events. In 2013, he presented his first TEDx Talk, titled Love Wins. Roth has acted in film and on television, appearing on Comedy Central, multiple national commercials and in various independent films. He makes his home in Mar Vista, Calif., with his wife Amy and two children.
