Introducing U To Jaylene Gilstrap
With fall classes underway at the University of Utah, the Red Rocks welcomed four freshmen to the program. Freshman Jaylene Gilstrap comes to the U from McKinney, Texas where she trained at Metroplex Gymnastics during her elite career. Gilstrap competed at the U.S Championships in 2016 and 2018, while also seeing action at the U.S. Classic and American Classic in 2015-16 and 2018-19. At the 2019 American Classic in the Jon M. Huntsman Center, Gilstrap placed third on floor, fifth on beam and seventh on vault.
Gilstrap placed first on floor, third on vault and fourth on beam and in the all-around at the 2018 National Elite Qualifier. Bringing international experience during her elite career to the Red Rocks as well, Gilstrap competed at the 2017 Championnat of France. At the international competition, she finished second on floor, third in the all-around and fourth on vault.
Gilstrap joined the program this summer, enrolling in summer classes and participating in voluntary training. For additional information about one of the newest Utes, click here.

Fun Fact(s)? I was a dancer for five years... I had over 200 leos growing up... I love Chik-fil-a!
Advice to aspiring gymnasts? Always keep going and work your hardest even on the hard days because in the end it is all worth it.

Favorite TV Show? The Office
Describe yourself in three words: Bubbly, positive and outgoing.
Who inspires you and why? My dad. He not only was a Division I athlete, but he worked just as hard in school and continues to inspire me with his constant work ethic and drive for the family.
Weird talent? I can wiggle my ears.
Dream job? Sports Psychologist
Favorite food? Steak and Caesar salad.
Favorite holiday? Christmas
