Rowing Abroad

Sep 4, 2020

STANFORD, Calif. – Kicking off the academic year in international waters, two Stanford women's rowers are set to compete in the 2020 Under-23 European Rowing Championships this weekend in Duisberg, Germany. Junior Esther Briz Zamorano is stroking Spain's 4-, while sophomore Annabelle Bachmann will row in the fifth seat of Germany's 8+.

Stanford women's rowing saw a majority of the 2020 campaign suspended due to the COVID-19 global outbreak. Bachmann made her collegiate debut alongside Briz Zamorano at the Head of the Charles, helping Stanford place third overall and first among collegiate teams. Briz Zamorano helped Stanford's second varsity to a fourth-place result at the 2019 NCAA Championships.

Both rowers have been consistently selected for competition at the youth levels of each country's national team system.

Briz Zamorano and Spain get started with her first heat at 11:10 a.m. local time on Sept. 5, while Bachmann and Germany will compete at 12:55 p.m. Full results will be available here.
