McKennon Accepts French Open Invitation
TEMPE - Freshman men's tennis student-athlete Max McKennon accepted his invitation to the 2020 French Open Junior Championships today. The Newport Beach, Calif., native is one of four U.S. players in the main draw and will represent the Maroon and Gold in the 124th edition of the tournament Oct. 4 at Stade Roland Garros in Paris.
The tournament is McKennon's lone opportunity to play in a Junior Championship this year after the Wimbledon and US Open Junior Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I am so incredibly excited for the opportunity to compete in Paris in the last tournament of my junior career," McKennon said. "Six months ago I never would have thought I'd be put into the situation I have, but I'm ecstatic to be given this last opportunity. I want to thank my family, coaches, and teammates for the support and to the French Federation for making it possible."
A blue-chip recruit, McKennon comes to Arizona State ranked 62nd in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior ranking. He ranks 10th nationally in his recruiting class and holds a 74-28 career record.
