Utah Fans Reinvest in Student-Athletes
When the Utah Athletics Department presented the #ReinvestInU campaign to football season ticket holders on Aug. 20, there was optimism that the loyalty and passion of Utah fans would shine through, even while many confront their own pandemic-related financial challenges.
The response from season ticket holders in the three weeks since the campaign's launch reflects the unwavering commitment of Utah Utes fans to their teams and their university, and the department is grateful for that support. Fans have thoughtfully shown their support for student-athletes and the comprehensive scope of services the department continues to provide for them, year-round, with or without competition taking place.
Season ticket holders were presented three options for the handling of the season ticket payments they made for the since-postponed 2020 season, with the encouragement to consider designating all or a portion of their payment as a tax-deductible donation.
- 73 percent have reinvested, contributing nearly $15M to Utah Athletics.
- 6 percent chose to make a donation, totaling $521,000
- 67 percent had their payment rolled forward to the 2021 season, accounting for more than $14 million
This reinvestment makes a significant difference in Utah Athletics' ability to provide the world-class experience our student-athletes thrive upon, to maintain the championship standards in and out of competition that will help us emerge stronger, together.
"We are profoundly grateful for the support of our season ticket holders and donors who have shown such commitment, dedication and loyalty in this time of great need, and when many of them are going through challenging times as well," said Mark Harlan, Director of Athletics. "We appreciate it, our student-athletes appreciate it, and it is such a strong indicator of the passion our fans feel for supporting the dreams of the young people in our athletics programs. We're very pleased and we're continuing to talk to people about opportunities to support and make a difference."
Fans who have rolled their payments forward to 2021, and are still considering converting their payment to a tax-deductible donation this year, may do so. Please contact your development officer to discuss the options for making an even greater difference for your Utah student-athletes.
