Ruffels Posts Top 15 Major Finish At Ana Inspiration

Sep 13, 2020
Senior Gabriela Ruffels tied for 15th at the Ana Inspiration Sunday, her first best major finish in three tries.

Senior Gabriela Ruffels, the two-time U.S. Amateur finalist and 2019 champ competing in her third LPGA major, posted a career-best tie for 15th at the 2020 Ana Inspiration on Sunday (Sept. 13) on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hills C.C. in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Ruffels, who missed the cut a month ago at the Women's British Open as well as at last year's Women's U.S. Open, was in contention this week in the desert, flirting with the top 5 early in today's finale at 9-under before finishing tied for 15th at 7-under 281 (71-68-71-71).
She came close to earning low am honors but was passed over the final holes by new rival Rose Zhang, who downed Ruffels in extra holes earlier this summer at the 2020 U.S. Amateur.
Ruffels started the final round at 6-under and went out at 1-under before quickly following with birdies on 10 and 12 to vault into a tie for sixth. Birdies barely escaped her on 14 and 15 and were followed by bogeys on 16 and 17 before a par on 18 to close out her tournament.
The Trojan senior's second round was the highlight of her tournament, a 4-under performance that saw her go out at 3-under and come home at 1-under with five birdies on the day.
She is set to play in her fourth major come mid-December in the 2020 U.S. Women's Open in Houston,.
