Pro Bears Week 2

BERKELEY – Five former Cal football players who finished their collegiate careers at the school – Tyson Alualu, Jared Goff, Patrick Mekari, Aaron Rodgers and Mitchell Schwartz – remain on unbeaten 2-0 NFL teams through the first two weeks of the 2020 NFL season.

Mekari and Schwartz are scheduled to face each other in Week 3 when Baltimore travels to Kansas City for Monday Night Football (5:15 pm PT, ESPN). On Sunday, Alualu and his Steelers host Houston (10 am PT, CBS), Goff and his Los Angeles Rams travel to Buffalo to face a fellow unbeaten team that also has fellow former Cal quarterback Davis Webb on its practice squad (10 am PT, FOX), while Rodgers and the Packers square off against Cameron Jordan and the Saints (5:20 pm PT, NBC).

Cal's Week 2 performances were arguably highlighted by the quarterback play of Goff and Rodgers. Goff had an efficient outing in a 37-19 win at Philadelphia as he completed 20-of-27 passes for 267 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a 142.1 quarterback rating that was the third best in Week 2 games while his 74.1 completion percentage was fourth. Rodgers completed 18-of-30 passes for 240 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in a 42-21 home win over Detroit.

Other top achievements from former Cal players in Week 2 games included L.P. Ladouceur's snap on Greg Zuerlein's game-winning 46-yard field goal on the final play of the Cowboys' 40-39 home win over Atlanta, while Marvin Jones had his first touchdown reception of the season for Detroit and Ashtyn Davis made his first career NFL start for the New York Jets.

A total of 28 former Cal football student-athletes who finished their collegiate careers with the Golden Bears are currently affiliated with NFL teams including 19 on active 53-player NFL rosters, one on injured reserve, three on practice squads and five that are coaching in the league.
