BOCHOLT, Germany -- Christina Edwards, a 2019 Sun Devil Soccer graduate, has signed a one-year professional contract to play for Borussia Bocholt in the 2. Bundesliga, the second division of the German league.

The forward/midfielder was a student-athlete in Barrett, The Honors College and played four years in the maroon and gold. Edwards, who played in 68 games in her Sun Devil career, was a letterwinner in 2016 after her freshman campaign. She finished her Sun Devil career with six goals, four assists, and 16 points.

"I am so incredibly proud of Tina for chasing her dreams of playing professional soccer in Europe," said head coach Graham Winkworth. "Her new team has inherited a wonderful teammate who I am sure will do a great job in the league for them. I am excited to follow her professional career."

In her second season, Edwards etched herself in the record books as she tied to lead the team in game-winning goals with two on the season. Both game-winners pushed ASU to win's against Pac-12 Conference foes, Oregon State and Washington.

The Oregon native kept her hot streak against her home state's school going the following year, scoring another goal at Oregon St. in her junior year. As a senior, Edwards played in 20 of 21 games, notching one assist and one goal.

After jumping through some hoops due to forest fires in Oregon and COVID-19, Edwards finally landed in Germany last Saturday. On German soil, she dove straight into team activities, met with her new coach first thing on Monday, played in a friendly on Tuesday, and participated in her first official team practice on Wednesday.

"The jet lag has been tough, but the women and staff have been as kind as possible - even though only a few speak some English and I speak no German - and are making the transition more of a warm-welcomed adventure," Edwards said.

Edwards is the fourth player to sign a professional contract in 2020 after playing under head coach Graham Winkworth. Alumni Jemma Purfield, Adriana Orozco, and Natalie Stephens all signed foreign professional contracts in recent weeks.
