BERKELEY – California women's tennis freshman Jada Bui competes in girls' singles in the French Open starting Sunday, with the young Canadian facing Flavie Brugnone of France at Roland-Garros.

The match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. in Paris (2 a.m. PT) on court 10.

Bui will also play in girls' doubles in Paris, pairing with Matilde Paoletti. The duo faces the seventh-seeded Linda Fruhvirtova and Romana Cisovska in the first round on Tuesday.

A native of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, Bui has competed at the junior Grand Slam level before, playing in the girls' singles and doubles main draws in the Australian Open earlier this year. The 18-year-old is a 10-time Canadian champion, who has captured multiple national singles and doubles titles. She also holds a career-best ITF combined ranking of 56 and a career-high WTA ranking of 744.

Bui represented Canada in the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, reaching the singles quarterfinals and also playing in doubles, and won two gold medals in the 2017 Canada Summer Games. She also competed in the U14 World Championships (2014) and the U16 Junior Fed Cup. In November, the top-seeded Bui won the singles title at the 2019 Ottawa International Championships, a J3 tournament in Canada.
