Juniors Standout Matsushita Joins Ducks
EUGENE, Ore. – Head coach Nils Schyllander has announced the signing of top-100 juniors standout Ryoma Matsushita to the University of Oregon men's tennis team. Set to join the team in January, Matsushita joins Quinn Vandecasteele in the Ducks' incoming freshman class.
Matsushita climbed as high as No. 90 in the ITF junior rankings, reaching the career-best mark in April 2019 after a pair of titles earlier in the year. He won eight combined titles in 2018 and 2019 including four singles and four doubles titles.
The Saitama, Japan, native began the 2019 season by advancing through qualifying to advance to the main draw of the junior event at the Australian Open. Matsushita also qualified for the junior event at Wimbledon and advanced to the second round of the draw. He also played doubles at both grand slam tournaments.
Bringing a wealth of international experience to Eugene, Matsushita accumulated a junior record of 119-59 which is good for a .669 winning percentage since 2015.
