BERKELEY – Three members of the Cal women's tennis team – Julia Rosenqvist, Haley Giavara and Cami Brown – will compete in the 2020 Oracle ITA Masters by UTR starting Friday in San Diego, where a 32-player field will vie for the singles title at the Barnes Tennis Center.

The tournament ends Sunday, with the 2 p.m. PT final broadcast on ESPNU and streamed on ESPN3. The singles-only event includes talented players from the college, junior and professional levels.

"We're just really excited that the ITA has been able to work with the Barnes Tennis Center to host this event this year," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "This will showcase tennis as a safe, socially-distanced sport during these challenging times. We're also excited that our three Bears get to play in this event, which has a lot of great players competing. It's a wonderful opportunity for Julia, Haley and Cami to get some additional match play this fall."

The champion of the tournament automatically qualifies for the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships scheduled for Nov. 5-8 at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida.

The sixth seed in the Oracle ITA Masters, Giavara plays Marianne Argyrokastriti in the first round on Friday at 11 a.m. Giavara is coming off a stellar freshman campaign for the Bears. The San Diego product was named a singles All-American after posting a 19-7 record and a No. 15 ranking in the abbreviated 2019-20 season.

Rosenqvist, the seventh seed, faces Katherine Hui at 10 a.m. A senior from Onsala, Sweden, Rosenqvist finished last year with a No. 57 ranking and a 15-7 record. She has kept busy of late, competing in the West Coast UTR Pro Tennis Series in Southern California in September and, in July, winning the SEB Karlskrona Open singles title in Sweden.

Brown, a freshman, received a wild card into the event and will take on Rebecca Lynn at 11:30 a.m. The Irvine product is highlighted in the ITA's tournament preview press release here.

Cal sophomore Erin Richardson is also competing this week in the LTA British Tour: Return to Elite Competition – Week 9. The England native plays Eleanor Nobbs on Friday at 11 a.m. local time at the National Tennis Centre in London.

Hannah Viller Moeller, a freshman, completed play in the TP/Gardell Open on Thursday in Sweden. She won three times on Wednesday to reach the singles semifinals, beating Tilda Larsson, 4-3(12), 4-2, Edit Cosmo, 1-4, 4-2, 4-2, and Martha Matoula, 4-2, 4-1, in a fast-4 format. The Dane fell to Marina Yudanov, 4-1, 4-3(5), in the semis.

"Erin and Hannah are both top players in their home countries, and we're really glad that their federations are doing the best they can to provide tournament opportunities," Augustus said. "That just shows the global nature of our sport. We're really happy the Bears are able to do what they love."
