Hockey ranked 15th in Preseason Poll
TEMPE, Ariz. – For the second-straight year, Sun Devil Hockey earned a spot in the USCHO Preseason Top-20 Poll, earning their highest preseason ranking in program history at No. 15.
The Sun Devils finished No. 13 in the USCHO Postseason Poll after a 22-11-3 season – a program record for wins and overall record in a season.
As announced in early October, the Sun Devils will play all seven Big Ten opponents four times in 2020-21 for a total of 28 games. Of the seven Big Ten teams, five were listed in the top-20, including Penn State (No. 9), Ohio State (No. 10), Michigan (No. 12), Minnesota (No. 14) and Notre Dame (No. 20).
Coach Powers' squad returns their top two scorers from a season ago in 40-point man James Sanchez and senior forward Johnny Walker, who returns with the most career goals in college hockey with 60.
Between the pipes, junior netminder Evan DeBrouwer returns after posting a 19-11-3 record with a .919 save percentage and 2.52 goals against average. The Sun Devils also add incoming freshman and New Jersey Devil fifth-round draft pick Cole Brady into the mix.
ASU also welcomes Wisconsin transfer Sean Dhooghe, who led the Badgers in scoring just two seasons ago, and redshirt junior transfer Chris Grando from Boston College, who sat out the 2019-20 season due to NCAA rules.
The Big Ten season is scheduled to begin Nov. 13 with ASU to start play the weekend of Nov. 21.
