SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah baseball team will be hosting the Utah World Series as they get close to the end of their fall season.
They've scrimmaged almost every weekend this fall in preparation for spring 2021. Beginning Friday, Utah will play a three-game series over the weekend. Game times are 3:15 on Friday and 1:15 on Saturday and Sunday.
The Utes return almost everyone off of last year's team that was heating up right as the team was about to begin Pac-12 play before the season was stopped. Utah finished the abbreviated 2020 season with a 6-7 record and had yet to play a home game.
In addition to almost the entire team returning, Utah welcomes 12 newcomers to the team. A couple of them are grad transfers that will bring valuable experience with them.
Jaylon McLaughlin transferred to Utah from Nevada. He set a bunch of career-highs with a .339 batting average, 48 games played, 45 starts, 61 hits, eight doubles, three homers, 25 stolen bases and 24 RBI.
Another transfer that will have a chance to make his mark is Brayson Hurdsman. The transfer from Houston will add some experience to the bullpen after appearing in 62 games.
