Pac-12 Announces Reorganized League Slate

SAN FRANCISCO – California will open the 2020-21 Pac-12 men's basketball slate at home against Arizona State on Dec. 3, followed by a road contest at UCLA on Dec. 6, the league office announced. Those two December dates, along with subsequent weekly matchups and site locations for the inaugural 20-game conference schedule, were unveiled by the conference on Thursday.

Specific dates and times for each game within the designated weeks will be announced after selections by the league's television partners are finalized. All 20 of Cal's conference games will be televised by either Pac-12 Network, ESPN/2/U, FOX/FS1 or CBS.

Cal's conference-opening clashes against Arizona State and at UCLA were originally announced in December 2019, following the conference's approval to move to a 20-game format. However, due to the NCAA's shift in season start date to Nov. 25, five of the Pac-12's original 12 dates were moved to allow for flexibility in non-league scheduling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The remainder of league play will resume the week of Dec. 30 and conclude March 6 or 7 ahead of the 2021 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas from March 10-13.

Per the Pac-12, all basketball competitions will be conducted in accordance with the Pac-12 COVID-19 Medical Advisory Committee health and safety recommendations and guidelines. All weekly matchups were designed to allow for flexibility should a need arise for rescheduled contests. No fans will be permitted at any sporting competition taking place on Pac-12 campuses, per conference health guidelines. The decision to not allow fans at competitions will be revisited based upon health and safety considerations in January 2021

In the 2019-20 season, the first year of the Mark Fox era, the Bears more than doubled their conference win total from three to seven – the largest margin of improvement by any Pac-12 team from 2018-19 to 2019-20.
