Hockey Announces Part of Big Ten Schedule
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Hockey Conference announced the first 12 games of the 2020-21 schedule on Thursday, which includes Sun Devil Hockey traveling to the University of Michigan for a top-15 showdown Nov. 14-15 for the conference's opening weekend.
"Officially seeing part of the schedule and being able to prepare for a game again is exciting for our team, and I know the guys are itching to get back on the ice against someone in a different colored jersey," said head coach Greg Powers. "To be able to kick off the Big Ten season at Michigan and Yost Arena is a great opening test and our guys will be ready to go."
ASU is 0-3-0 all-time against the Wolverines with their most recent meeting coming at Yost Arena for the final two regular season games of 2017-18. Ironically, last year's two point leaders for the Sun Devils each scored two goals in the first game of that series, just for separate teams. Former Wolverine James Sanchez netted two against ASU, while Johnny Walker – his current linemate – netted two as well.
Walker finished that weekend at Michigan with four goals, leading him to the most goals per games played of any NCAA freshman in 2017-18.
There is potential the Sun Devils will remain in the Midwest for three-straight weeks, as they travel to Michigan State Nov. 19-20, followed by Wisconsin Nov. 28-29, and finally at No. 20 Notre Dame Dec. 3-4.
After returning home, Powers and the team will have a quick turnaround to No. 9 Penn State for two games in three days on Dec. 11 and 13, then on to Ohio State Dec. 17-18.
Game times and television designations, as well as the remainder of the 2020-21 schedule, will be announced at a later date.
