Baseball Signs 11 During Early Signing Period
SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah baseball team has signed 11 to letters of intent during the national signing period.
The group includes five from Utah and two from Canada.
"I'm very excited about adding these guys," head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "They're really quality in every aspect across the board. It could really be an outstanding class if we get them all here."
Cameron Day is a 6-1 right-handed pitcher from Layton, Utah. He was named a preseason underclass All-American, West All-Region Second Team and Perfect Game Most Offensive Player. His motivation for playing baseball at Utah is he wanted to be the first in his family to play sports in college after his dad couldn't after being injured.
Bryson Van Sickle attended West Lake High School before going to Labette Community College. He pitched 22.2 innings with 42 strikeouts at Labette. In his senior season, he went 5-1 with a 1.25 ERA and 69 strikeouts. For those efforts on the mound, he was named first team All-State and All-Region. Van Sickle also was named the Pitcher of the Tournament at the Pathway Showcase after having a 1.00 ERA.
Elijha Hammill is an infielder from Oakville, Ontario. He's been a member of the Canadian Junior National Team for three years from 2019-21. He was a starter on Team Canada at U18 World Championship in 2019. Hammill won the MLB pitch, hit and run national championship in 2016. His team won the Canadadian National Championship in baseball in 2018.
Jaden Harris is a pitcher from Millville, Utah. The Ridgeline High School product was named Second Team All-Region after his sophomore season. He was also listed as Freshman Top 15 in Utah.
Zach Toglia is a third baseman from Gig Harbor, Washington. He will graduate with honors and come in with multiple AP credits from Gig Harbor High School. He has been named first team all-league and earned a Silver Slugger award. Toglia is also a team captain.
Landon Frei will head to Utah from St. George, Utah. The Snow Canyon product has hit .390 with 37 RBI. The short stop also had a 1.063 OPS and three home runs.
Josh Schleichardt is a third baseman from Tigard, Oregon. The three-year letterman hit .325 his freshman and sophomore year. He was named second team All-League in the 6A Three Rivers League. Schleichardt earned MVP honors at the Howard Rein Legion A Tournament in 2018.
Bransen Kuehl is a pitcher from Rapid City, South Dakota. He helped his team become Bishop Gorman Tournament Champions in 2019. He was named team Captain for the 2020-2021 season.
Jackson Clemett can play first base or in the outfield. The Calgary, Alberta native wants to play professional baseball, but will pursue studies in sciences that will allow him to pursue a career in medicine or other health and sport related fields. His team became Bishop Gorman Tournament Champions in 2019. He was named team captain for the 2020-2021 season.
Micah Ashman is a left-handed pitcher from Sandy, Utah. He went to Jordan High School.
Jackson Castillo wraps up Utah's signees with the 6-0 outfielder coming to the Utes from Murrieta, Calif. He earned all-league honors in 2019 at Rancho Bernardo High School and was a part of the 2020 PG World Championship team.
These 11 players will join the Utes starting in the fall of 2021.
