Women's Basketball Signs Talented Duo From Minnesota

SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah women's basketball head coach Lynne Roberts announced the signing of Jenna Johnson and Gianna Kneepkens to the 2021-22 squad today on National Signing Day, adding two talented and versatile recruits to an already deep Ute squad.

"Jenna and Gianna are awesome additions to our Utah family," Roberts said. "They are incredible students from incredible families who can really make their presence known on the court. They are total 'fits' to our program – long, athletic, tough, competitive, and versatile players who can score. Ute fans are going to love them."

The duo comes to Utah from the state of Minnesota with Johnson playing high school basketball for Wayzata High School (Medina, Minn.) and Kneepkens coming to Utah after a strong career at Duluth Marshall High School (Duluth, Minn.).

Both Johnson and Kneepkens had standout careers in high school and on their respective AAU teams, bringing state championships, school records and individual state recognitions with them to Salt Lake City, ready to make an immediate impact for the Utes.

She is very good around the basket but can also really shoot the three.  She loves the game, has a really high IQ out there, and she is a player that I could see becoming a coach someday."

Gianna Kneepkens :: 5-11 :: Guard :: Duluth, Minn. (Duluth Marshall HS)
Two-time all-state and all-area and three-time all-conference out of Duluth Marshall HS … set the school record in career scoring, also ranking in the top-10 in scoring in the state of Minnesota all-time … averaged 31.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 5.8 steals and 4.6 assists per game as a junior … scored a career-high 51 points in a game in 2019 … led Duluth Marshall to state the state tournament for the first time in 20 years, making it to the championship game … four-star recruit on Prospect Nation … also a two-time all-conference and all-state soccer player … played AAU for Minnesota Fury, winning two state championships while placing second at the AAU Under Amour Nationals … class president in high school, also earning the 100 Hours of Service Award as a junior … daughter of Donald and Betsy … has five brothers.
