Cougars Add Maxine Murphy to 2021 Class

Nov 12, 2020

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State Tennis Head Coach Lisa Hart announced Friday that Maxine Murphy will join the Cougar Tennis program in the fall of 2021.

"We are thrilled about adding Maxine to our team," said Hart. "Maxine has accomplished so much during her junior career, proving to be one of the best players in Southern California and the nation.  Maxine is a 5-star recruit and has been ranked #1 in doubles in her section.  We believe her best tennis is in front of her and we are thrilled about getting the opportunity to coach her at WSU."

Murphy, from Laguna Niguel, Calif., is currently ranked No. 6 in the Southern California Girls 18 singles and finished the 2019 season ranked No. 1 in doubles. Most recently, she reached the semifinals of the USTA Southern California Junior Sectional Championships while also reaching the doubles final. She maintains a 4.00 grade point average.

"I'm so excited to be a Coug! I immediately loved the school when I visited in March," said Murphy. "The coaches, players, and everyone I met on campus made me feel like family. I knew it was the perfect environment both athletically and academically. I look forward to working hard on the courts and in the classroom and I am thrilled to be spending the next four years in Pullman."
