Evan Mobley Named To Naismith Trophy Watch List

USC men's basketball freshman forward Evan Mobley has been named to the 50-player 2021 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Watch List, given to the top player in men's college basketball by the Atlanta Tipoff Club it was announced today (Nov. 19).  

The 7-0 Mobley adds to his preseason honors which also include begin named to the 2021 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award Watch List and being named to the 20-21 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Preseason Media All-Conference First Team.  

Mobley was the 2020 Morgan Wooten High School Player of the Year, a McDonald's All-American and a two-time California Gatorade Player of the Year. He signed with USC as the nation's No. 1-ranked recruit, the first time that USC men's basketball landed the top-ranked signee.

Mobley averaged 20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.2 blocks and 4.6 assists last season as a senior at Rancho Christian School in Temecula, Calif.

He joins his brother, Isaiah, a sophomore on the Trojans. His father, Eric, is an assistant coach at USC.

"The beginning of the season is filled with excitement, optimism and anticipation as each team and every player is undefeated, making the race for the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy wide open.While these 50 candidates are those to keep an eye on, there will be plenty of others who will enter the competition throughout the season," said Eric Oberman, executive director of the Atlanta Tipoff Club."This year will be especially exciting as players who were unable to finish their seasons last year have even more to prove."

A list of the midseason 30 team will be released in early February, followed by the 10 national semifinalists and four finalists on March 4, 2021, and March 16, 2021, respectively. Players who do not make the watch list are still eligible to be selected for the midseason 30 team. The 2021 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy will be awarded during the Final Four at the Naismith Awards Brunch on April 4, 2021.
