Getting To Know Ashton Allen

Freshman sprinter Ashton Allen comes to USC with impressive credentials and joins his brothers Eric Jr. and Austin on the Trojans' track and field team.  He has PRs of 20.84 in the 200m and 46.99 in the 400m. He took second in the 200m with a wind-aided time of 20.76 (+3.1w) at the 2019 New Balance Nationals.  He was named the Maryland Gatorade T&F Athlete of the Year and is the Maryland indoor record-holder in the 400m and the outdoor 200m.  We had a chance to catch up with him the other day.
 
Q: What type of Zoom student are you?
 
A.A.: In-touch Zoom student, take classes at desk
 
Q: What is your go-to quarantine dinner?
 
A.A.: Chicken breast brown rice, then a green maybe broccoli or green beans
 
Q: What's the most interesting place you've competed at?
 
A.A.: Junior year high school went the capital of Iceland, fun to see international competition.
 
Q: What is your event?
 
A.A.: 200m & 400m
 
Q: What's on your Instagram discover page?
 
A.A.: A lot of sports, mainly public figures in sports, food because I'm a big foodie, and then some anime stuff. Also black lives matter
 
Q: Favorite animal?
 
A.A.: I'm really interested in hippos because of how fast they can swim. Also I like big cats like mountain lions
 
Q: What is your favorite music genre?
 
A.A.: Hip Hop/ Rap and some R&B
 
Q: What do you listen to before races?
 
A.A.: I like to keep it calm, nothing too heavy. I wouldn't listen to dreams and nightmares but I would listen to one dance
 
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
 
A.A.: I like to bake. I'm trying to widen the variety of things I bake. Right now, I'm working on cheesecake
 
Q: What is the most important part of your identity/brand?
 
A.A.: I like to represent myself as respectable and a guy who can influence younger generations. I want to be an influence and a role model for younger people.
 
Q: How important was family in your decision to come here
A.A.: Family was big because I've been with them my whole life. They are a cornerstone part of my life and athletic career. We like being all together
 
Q: What's your favorite part of about living in LA so far?
 
A.A.: The weather, it is predictable, consistent and warm.
 
Q: What are you most excited for about coming to USC?
 
A.A.: I'm really excited to represent the brand. Knowing how well respected this team is, watching previous athletes do great things. I'm excited to wear
