Utah Men's Tennis Welcomes Chris Heck
SALT LAKE CITY – Utah men's tennis head coach Roeland Brateanu has announced the addition of Chris Heck to the 2020-21 roster. Coming to Utah as a Canadian national champion, Heck will join the Utes this January and will be immediately eligible as a freshman.
"Christopher has had an outstanding junior career," said Brateanu on the newest addition to the program. "He is a tremendously tough competitor and a great athlete. We can't wait to get him on campus and part of our squad this year."
Heck comes to the Utes as a previous Iowa Hawkeyes commit, but found his new destination at Utah when the Iowa men's tennis program announced it would be discontinued after the 2020-21 season. The Toronto, Canada native is a two-time Canadian national champion in doubles in U12 and U14 and was a two-time finalist in singles at the national championships. Heck ranked No. 2 in U12 and U14 in Canada, while ranking No. 4 in the U16 group.
Heck achieved a career-high ITF Junior Rank of #394 in January 2020. In singles play, he was a finalist at the 2018 Bermuda ITF Junior Open and 2018 Coca Cola ITF Junior Tennis Tournament in Castries, Saint Lucia. Heck reached the semifinals at the 2017 ITF Boombay Splash Bowl in the Bahamas, the 2018 ITF Barbados Cup and the 2019 J5 Calgary tournament.
Along with his Canadian national titles in doubles, Heck reached the doubles finals at two ITF events in his junior career. He was a finalist at the 2017 ITF Antigua & Barbuda Cup and at the 2019 ITF J4 Tacarigua in Trinidad and Tobago.
"I'm thrilled to be playing for the University of Utah," said Heck on his commitment. "I have confidence in my team, coaches and myself that we will be one of the best teams in college tennis. I chose Utah because of the knowledgeable coaching staff, amazing location and strong competition. Go Utes!"
