The Bruins own a 25-17-2 overall advantage (12-4-1 record in games played in Pasadena) in the series against Arizona, which started in 1928. UCLA is 1-1 versus the Wildcats under Coach Kelly, having dropped a 20-17 decision in the last meeting between the two schools played in 2019 in Tucson. UA used a fourth-quarter touchdown to swing a back-and-forth game their way and earn a close decision over the Bruins who missed a chance to even the game on a late field attempt. Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who left the game in the third quarter with an injury, went 17-for-33 and threw one touchdown. Jaylen Erwin caught a career-best seven passes for 63 yards, and Kyle Philips added a then career-high six receptions.

UCLA has won the past four meetings played in the Rose Bowl, including a 31-30 victory in 2018. Joshua Kelley rushed for 136 yards and a go-ahead, 28-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to lead the Bruins to the victory. After UCLA controlled the actionol in the first half and led by a 17-7 margin at the break, the second half saw things get interesting and featured four lead changes. Arizona claimed a 27-24 lead on an eight-play, 72-yard drive. The Bruins answered with the 28-yard touchdown run from Kelley to secure a 31-27 lead with 11:33 to play. Arizona pulled to within one point, at 31-30, after Josh Pollack connected on a 29-yard field goal with 6:28 left in the contest. Neither team scored again.
