Elsnitz, Green to Miss Remainder of Season
BERKELEY – Sophomore guard Jazlen Green (right knee) and freshman guard Alma Elsnitz (right ACL tear) will miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season as announced by head coach Charmin Smith on Wednesday.
"Obviously these are devastating blows to our program, but we will support Alma and Jazzy throughout their recovery and I have no doubt that they will come back stronger than ever next season," Smith said.
In her first collegiate start, Elsnitz was leading the team with 14 points and picked up four rebounds and two steals before exiting the game with under two minutes remaining. From Stockholm, Sweden, Elsnitz was one of the six freshmen who helped create the Golden Bears' seventh ranked 2020 recruiting class.
Green, entering her sophomore season, was named a Preseason All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. The Upland, Calif., native was named one of three team captains after emerging as a leader during her freshman campaign. She led the Bears in scoring in four games last year, including a team-high 17 points in their 55-54 upset over No. 13 Arizona to end the regular season. Appearing in 29 games, Green ranked second on the team in scoring overall, averaging 8.8 points per game off the bench and also averaged 15.3 points during the last three games of the season. She led Cal in both three-pointers made (48) and three-point percentage (36.9%) last season, and also shot 50 percent (16-for-32) from beyond the arc over the last seven games.
Elsnitz and Green join sophomore guard Cailyn Crocker who is also out for the season due to injury.
