OMAHA, Neb. – No. 21 Oregon rallied behind a career-high 31 points from Eugene Omoruyi, but the shorthanded Ducks fell to Missouri 83-75 Wednesday at CHI Health Center Omaha.

How it Happened: Oregon had a sluggish start in its 2020-21 season opener, falling behind by 17 in the first half before an Omoruyi flurry closed the halftime gap to 42-31.

The Ducks (0-1) came out of the break with six straight points from Omoruyi to close within 42-37. The senior transfer from Rutgers scored 12 straight points for the Ducks over the first and second periods.

Missouri (2-0) then built its lead up to 16 points before the Ducks slowly reeled the Tigers in. Oregon got within five twice in the final minute on layups by Chris Duarte, but the Tigers made their free throws to close out the game.

After being minus-7 on the boards in the first half, the Ducks outrebounded Missouri 23-13 in the second half.

Who Stood Out: Omoruyi had his eighth career double-double with 11 rebounds with his 31 points. Duarte scored 23 points, while Eric Williams Jr. added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Notable: Omoruyi's 31 points was the most ever by a player in his first game as a Duck … Redshirt freshman Lok Wur, an Omaha native, saw his first collegiate action, as did fellow freshmen Jalen Terry and Gabe Reichle … Prior to the game, coach Dana Altman announced that assistant Tony Stubblefield has been promoted to associate head coach … Oregon announced that junior guard Will Richardson will miss at least six weeks due to a thumb injury … Senior L.J. Figueroa is still waiting clearance on his transfer waiver from the NCAA.

Head coach Dana Altman
"Eugene fought his tail off to keep us in the game … He was by far the brightest spot. Competitive, toughness-wise. Unbelievable effort."

Up Next: Oregon will stay in Omaha for a neutral site contest against Seton Hall (1-2) at the CHI Health Center Omaha (6 p.m. PT, FS1).
