Buffs To Play At Tennessee Tuesday

Dec 5, 2020

BOULDER – The University of Colorado men's basketball team has added a game with Tennessee set for Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Knoxville. The game will tip at 4 p.m. MT and will be streamed on SEC Network+.

With that change, the Buffaloes will not host Colorado School of Mines in what would have been an exhibition game for the Orediggers. Colorado Mines originally replaced Colorado State on the Buffs' schedule when the Rams had to cancel the game set for that same date due to COVID-19 concerns in their program.

Tennessee, ranked 13th in the first Associated Press Top 25 poll has yet to play a game in 2020-21. The Volunteers have had four games cancelled, and a fifth called off against UT Martin that would have Wednesday, Dec. 9. Prior to Saturday's announcement, Tennessee's next regularly scheduled game wouldn't have been until Saturday, Dec. 12.

The two programs have met twice, with Tennessee sweeping a home-and-home in 1980 and '81. Tennessee assistant coach Kim English was a Colorado assistant for two seasons. Colorado head coach Tad Boyle was the Volunteers' Director of Operations for the 1997-98 season.

Colorado is 2-0 overall, having been off since defeating Kansas State on Nov. 27. The Buffaloes had temporarily paused operations on Tuesday, which forced the postponement of their game at Arizona. Colorado was able to resume practice on Thursday with the approval of the school's medical staff and campus health officials after two days of successful tracing and testing.

Colorado was scheduled to play Washington State on Saturday, before COVID-19 concerns in the Cougars' program forced the postponement of that contest.
