Wildcats Fall in Territorial Cup
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona dropped the 94th edition of the Territorial Cup to Arizona State on Friday night at Arizona Stadium, losing 70-7 to its in-state rival.
The Wildcats fell into an early hole and could not recover, as the Sun Devils raced off with the definitive victory.
Arizona gained 350 yards of offense, but managed just seven points in the game. UA was hurt by seven turnovers in the game.
The Cats used a trio of quarterbacks in the game. Starter Grant Gunnell started the game and threw for 78 yards on 12 completions. Backup Will Plummer threw for a team-best 78 yards and ran for 17 more. Plummer was replaced by Rhett Rodriguez in the fourth quarter; Rodriguez went 7-for-16 for 52 yards in his first action of 2020.
Gary Brightwell led Arizona's ground attack with 49 yards on 17 carries. Michael Wiley rushed for 42 yards and a score.
Arizona moved to 0-5 on the season while Arizona State improved to 1-2. Arizona awaits the conference's announcement on next week's opponent and location in the final game of the 2020 season.
