CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 15 Oregon State women's basketball team fell to No. 8 Oregon 79-59 Sunday evening at Gill Coliseum.
"We knew this was going to be a battle, and Oregon executed well like we knew they would," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "They shot the ball extremely well, and you have to give them a lot of credit. I was pleased with the way that we battled. We are a young team, and that was evident at times, but that is part of this journey. We're figuring out our strengths and our weaknesses. As the game went on, I'm really proud of the way we competed. I'm excited about the potential of this group."
Sophomore Taylor Jones went 7-for-14 from the floor to finish with 14 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Fellow post Jelena Mitrovic also scored in double-figures, finishing with 11 points and four rebounds.
Freshman Savannah Samuel tallied 10 points, four rebounds and three blocks, while fellow freshman Sasha Goforth put up nine points and four assists. Senior Aleah Goodman went for seven points and four rebounds.
The teams traded punches early on, heading to the first media break with Oregon in front 8-6. The Ducks extended the advantage to 21-11 at the end of the first quarter. Oregon headed to the break up 45-24.
Oregon held the lead throughout the second half, taking the win by 20.
