VanDerveer eyes historic win as Pac-12 Women’s Basketball continues with another action-packed slate
• Head coach Tara VanDerveer of #1 STANFORD is just one victory away from becoming the all-time career wins leader in NCAA women’s basketball history. This past Sunday, VanDerveer tied Pat Summitt with her 1,098th career victory after the Cardinal defeated California, and Stanford looks to secure the milestone tonight as it takes on Pacific at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN2.
• Conference action continues this week starting on Friday as ARIZONA STATE visits UTAH at 3 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Network. On Monday, #1 STANFORD takes on #11 UCLA at 12 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Network, giving fans another top-25 conference matchup for the third consecutive week.
• Once again the Pac-12 has five teams ranked in the Top-25, with #1 STANFORD, #6 ARIZONA, #T7 OREGON, #11 UCLA and #21 OREGON STATE representing the Conference of Champions. ARIZONA STATE is receiving votes.
• With STANFORD maintaining the top spot in the AP Top 25 rankings this week, the Cardinal has been ranked #1 in the poll for the second-straight year. A Pac-12 team has been ranked #1 in the AP Top 25 in nine of the past 24 weeks (Last season OREGON was ranked #1 in the preseason to week-four polls and STANFORD was #1 from weeks five to seven).
• UTAH’s Brynna Maxwell was named the College Sports Madness National Player of the Week after leading the Utes to a 2-0 week including an upset of No. 15 Oregon State in which she scored 34 points, the most by a Pac-12 player this season.
• The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee announced the 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship will be held in one geographic area and has begun preliminary talks with San Antonio and the surrounding region to serve as the potential landing spot for the 64-team tournament.
