Leger-Walker Earns Second Pac-12 Freshman of the Week Honor

Dec 28, 2020

SAN FRANCISCO – Charlisse Leger-Walker has once again been named the Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday, Dec. 28. It is the second time over the last three weeks that the Cougar guard has earned the accolade.

Leger-Walker earned her second Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor after posting 16.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game over a pair of contests against No. 8 Oregon and Eastern Washington last week. Her 16.0 points per game average was the highest for any Pac-12 freshman during last week's set of games.

The guard got her week started with a 20-point performance against the eighth-ranked Ducks this past Monday, Dec. 21, in Beasley Coliseum. Leger-Walker shot 7-of-16 from the field in the 69-65 loss to Oregon. She connected on a career-high four 3-point field goals, to help Washington State nearly pulled off the upset over UO. Leger-Walker's 20 points against Oregon are the most points scored by any opposing player against the Ducks this season. She now has three 20-plus point performances through her first five games in a Washington State uniform.

The Waikato, New Zealand native followed up her performance against Oregon with a 12-point effort against Eastern Washington in Tuesday's 73-52 win over the Eagles. Leger-Walker logged only 21 minutes against EWU, but made the most of her time on the court, as she went 5-of-9 from the floor and added four rebounds and three steals.

Leger-Walker continues to enter rarified air during the early portion of the 2020-21 season, as she has now won the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week twice through the first three weeks of her WSU career. She joins Lia Galderia and Chanelle Molina as the only WSU freshmen to win Pac-12 Freshman of the Week twice in their career, while Leger-Walker needs one more Pac-12 freshman weekly honor to match Borislava Hristova's school record of three Pac-12 Freshman of the Week awards.

Washington State will be back in action this Friday, Jan. 1, as the Cougars leap back into conference action to take on Utah in Salt Lake City. Tip-off for Friday's game will be annouced later this week.
