Top-Five Battle Between Utah and Oklahoma To Be Televised On ESPN2

Dec 30, 2020

SALT LAKE CITY – The stage will be set on Sunday, Jan. 17 as two of the nation's powerhouses clash live on ESPN2 when the No. 4 preseason-ranked Utah gymnastics program goes head-to-head with No. 2 Oklahoma in the second week of the 2021 season. The nationally televised top-five matchup between the Utes and Sooners will begin at 4 p.m. CT at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla.

Utah and Oklahoma will meet for the first time in the regular season since 1992. The trip to Norman, Okla. will be the first meeting of the home-and-home series, with Oklahoma returning the favor next season when they travel to Salt Lake City. Utah leads the all-time series with Oklahoma 28-10 and holds a 7-1 record over the Sooners in the regular season.

The programs are two of just six programs to have ever claimed a national title. Utah is the only program in the country to qualify into every NCAA Championship and boasts a record-tying 10 national titles and five runner-up finishes, most recently in 2015. Oklahoma has won three of the past four NCAA titles and was the NCAA runner-up in 2018. Both squads finished the 2020 campaign unbeaten as Utah finished 11-0 on the season and Oklahoma held a 16-0 record when the season was canceled.

Utah gymnastics will begin the 2021 season at the Rio Tinto Best of Utah on Saturday, Jan. 9 before turning their attention to Oklahoma on Sunday, Jan. 17. The rest of the 2021 Utah gymnastics schedule has yet to be determined. For schedule announcements, follow @Utahgymnastics on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
