Quarterback Patrick O'Brien has been admitted to the University of Washington and will join the Husky football program, head coach Jimmy Lake announced today.

O'Brien comes to the UW from Colorado State, where he spent most of the last two seasons as the Rams' starter. A graduate of San Juan Hills High school in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., he originally attended Nebraska (2016-17) before transferring to CSU.

Last season, O'Brien started three of the Rams' four games. He completed 45 of 80 pass attempts for 591 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. In 2019, he started nine games and played in two more, going 209-of-338 for 2,803 yards, 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

After redshirting the 2016 season at Nebraska, O'Brien appeared in four games for the Cornhuskers in 2017. He completed 18 of 30 passes for 192 yards. After the 2017 season, he transferred to Colorado State, where he was required to sit out the 2018 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

As a high school senior in 2015, O'Brien led San Juan Hills to an 8-3 overall record and a berth in the CIF Southern Section Southwest Division playoffs. That season, he passed for 2,895 yards and 32 touchdowns, completing 74.3 percent of his pass attempts, while also rushing for 626 yards and eight TDs. He earned All-South Coast League first-team honors, as well as second-team USA Today all-state.

O'Brien will begin the winter academic quarter at the UW when it begins on Monday, Jan. 4. He has one season of college eligibility.
