ARLINGTON, Texas – Today inside of AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the life of Utah freshman running back Ty Jordan was celebrated by family, friends, teammates and coaches through encouraging words, powerful scripture and beautiful music as Jordan was laid to rest.

Jordan, who tragically lost his life on Dec. 25, 2020, had an immediate impact on the entire sports world, evidenced by the outpouring of support and love for his family and all those who knew him.

"This young man will never be forgotten," Utah running backs Kiel McDonald said during today's service. "Ty's light was incredible. With that million dollar smile that went from cheek-to-cheek, you could barely see his eyes. He had a special energy. He was someone who truly loved life to the fullest."

During his celebration of life today, Jordan was described as a superstar on the field and in life. Seeing the impact he made on the field this past season for the Utes without ever playing in front of a full stadium, he received his final standing ovation during the service from those in attendance.

"What a special young man," Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said. "The simplest thing I can say is that I love Ty. I am going to miss him. As a head football coach, you really have 120 adopted sons and you care for them like your sons. You hurt when they hurt. It is a special bond. I connected with Ty on day one. His smile, the infectious personality, that sparkle in his eyes – he was a special person."

Also during today's celebration, Utah Athletics Director Mark Harlan presented Jordan's family with a certificate of academic achievement after he finished his first semester of college with standout grades, once again pointing toward his incredible character off the field.

Earlier this week, Utah Athletics established the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship to honor the memory of Jordan and his incredible impact on the Salt Lake City community. The scholarship will be awarded to a student-athlete in the football program who exemplifies the inspiring qualities that Jordan displayed through his work ethic, positivity and perseverance through adversity.
