Friday's Game at UCLA Postponed

Jan 7, 2021

LOS ANGELES – The University of Colorado women's basketball game against UCLA originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 8, has been postponed due to injury concerns within the Bruins' women's basketball program.

UCLA informed Colorado on Thursday morning that it would not be able to meet the Pac-12's minimum requirement of healthy scholarship players (7).

An update on the direction of rescheduling the contest will be made available when details are known.

This is CU's second postponement this season. Colorado's game against Arizona State on Dec. 20 was postponed due to an abundance of caution. That game has yet to be rescheduled.

The Buffaloes, who were set to head to Los Angeles later Thursday, will now shift their travel plans and prepare to take on Southern California on Sunday. Game time is set for noon MT and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.

UCLA Release
LOS ANGELES – The UCLA Women's Basketball program has made the difficult decision to not play its scheduled game against Colorado on Friday, Jan. 8, due to injury concerns within the program. The decision was made in consultation with the team physician and team medical staff.

"Our medical team made a really tough decision that we don't have enough healthy players to play our game on Friday," said The Michael Price Family UCLA Women's Head Basketball Coach Cori Close. "The health and wellbeing of our student-athletes are the priority and I trust our medical team's decision.

The Bruins will not meet the Pac-12's minimum requirement of healthy scholarship players (7) ahead of Friday's game. As outlined by the Conference in the current 2020-21 Pac-12 COVID-19 Addendum, teams without enough healthy may elect to play the game with fewer than the minimum roster scholarship players. Otherwise, upon review and approval by the Commissioner, the game may be rescheduled or declared a no contest. UCLA has opted to protect the health and safety of its student-athletes and not play Friday's game. The Bruins hope to reschedule the game later in the season.

UCLA still hopes to play its scheduled game against Utah on Sunday, Jan. 10, but further evaluation from medical personnel will be required. Additional information regarding the potential rescheduling of Friday's game and the future status of Sunday's game against Utah will be announced when final decisions are made.
