Sun Devil WBB’s Taya Hanson Named Canada Basketball’s Player of the Week

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil junior guard Taya Hanson was named Canada Basketball's Player of the Week for December 28, 2020 – January 3, 2021, according to an announcement by Canada Basketball on Tuesday.
Hanson tied a school record with seven 3-pointers and scored a career-high 21 points in ASU's 56-53, come-from-behind win over Cal on Jan. 1. Hanson, who also tied a career-high with three steals, scored 12 of her points in the second half. She added 15 points in ASU's 68-60 loss to top-ranked Stanford on Jan. 3, scoring nine of her 15 points in the second half in addition to being part of a defensive effort that held Stanford nearly 20 points below its scoring average and helped the Sun Devils play Stanford closer than any other team to that point as the Cardinal came in having won by an average of 36.9 ppg.
Over the last five games, Hanson has averaged 15.6 ppg and has connected on 91 percent of her free throws (14-15). During that stretch she has led the team in steals (1.6 spg) and 3-pointers (14), is second in assists (2.2 apg) and is tied for third in rebounding (5.0 rpg). 
Hanson has represented Canada since she was 15, competing in a number of FIBA events including the FIBA U16 Americas Women's Championship, FIBA U17 Women's World Cup, FIBA U18 Americas Women's Championship and most recently, at the FIBA U19 Women's World Cup in Thailand where she played all seven games and averaged 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
