Lau Honored As One of CU Boulder's Student Leader of the Year Recipients

Jan 15, 2021
Alisha Lau

BOULDER — University of Colorado women's golfer Alisha Lau has been named one of five honorees of the 2020-21 Student Leader of the Year, as announced by the University of Colorado Boulder's Center for Leadership.

"It's a huge honor to have even been nominated for this award," Lau said. "This recognition is beyond anything I could have expected for myself during my college career. I wouldn't have been able to achieve this without the endless support from our LCDP department, my coaches, our SAAC exec team and everyone else who has helped me develop/pushed me during my college career within athletics!"

Lau, a junior on the golf team, is part of the SCRIPPS Leadership Program. A media design major, Lau is the vice-president of long term and special projects on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Her peers note that she is committed to forging a brighter path for other student-athletes through her selflessness and dedication. She consistently demonstrates honor, integrity and accountability.

This program highlights the impact of leadership education at CU Boulder. By recognizing outstanding students, the program rewards exceptional work and highlights leadership programs. Qualified Student Leaders of the Year will also be invited to attend the Leo Hill Leadership Speaker Series Chancellor's Dinner on February 23, 2021. All of the nominees will be recognized at Macky Auditorium the evening of February 23, 2021.

The CU Boulder Student Leaders of the Year awards recognize those individuals participating in campus leadership programs who have demonstrated the following:

  • Academic excellence and curiosity
  • Extraordinary support to and innovation within campus leadership programs
  • Exceptional service to the community, either campus or Boulder metro area
  • A desire to repair the social fabric of America
  • Outstanding character and personal resilience
  • Exemplary embodiment of the Colorado Creed

CU's golf schedule was released Thursday. Lau and her teammates will open up the season February 8-9, in San Diego, Calif., at the Lamkin Invitational.
