Utah Track & Field Season Gears Up With 2021 Slate

Jan 20, 2021

SALT LAKE CITY – The long wait is finally over for the Utah track & field team as head coach Kyle Kepler announced the release of the 2021 indoor and outdoor schedule on Wednesday.
In accordance with the Pac-12 Conference, spectators are still not allowed at competitions taking place on Pac-12 campuses after extending that decision on Jan. 11.
The indoor season gets going right away for the Utes with a small squad heading to College Station, Texas, later this Saturday, Jan. 23, for the Aggie Invitational inside the Gilliam Indoor Stadium. Utah won't have to go very far the following week competing at the Weber State Indoor Invitational (Jan. 29-30).
The women of Utah then heads to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Qualifier (Feb. 5) and get a feel for what it'll be like to run at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track – which will host the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships (March 12-13).
Meanwhile, Utah will also be competing in outdoor meets before the NCAA Indoor Championships should it qualify. The first outdoor meet is schedule for Feb. 13 and hosted by UNLV before the Utes return to Las Vegas nearly a month later on March 6 for another outdoor meet.
With the outdoor season in full swing, the Utes head to Los Angeles for the Trojan Invitational (March 19-20) in Southern California. It will then split the squad up the following week with some of the student-athletes competing in the Texas Relays (March 24-27) while others race at the Bobcat Invitational (March 26-27) hosted by Texas State.
Utah will then get its first look at the newly renovated Hayward Field, the host site of the NCAA Outdoor Championships through 2027, the weekend of April 2-3 while some of the team will stay locally and compete at the UVU Collegiate Invitational.
After taking a hiatus due to COVID-19 last season, the Utah Spring Classic returns April 9-10 with the McCarthey Family Track & Field Complex hosting a majority of the meet while Weber State plays host to some field events. Utah then heads to Southern California for the popular Mt. Sac Relays (April 14-17).
Utah will then have another split squad weekend with some racing locally at the Robinson Invitational (April 21-24) hosted by BYU while others will compete in the famed Drake Relays (April 21-24) before wrapping up the month up in Ogden with the Wildcat Invitational (April 30-May 1).
The Utes will get their final tune-up before the conference championships in the Pacific Northwest, competing at the Oregon Twilight (May 7) and Portland Twilight (May 8) back-to-back days. Utah's last opportunity to earn a qualifying time for the NCAA Regionals will be May 14-16 when it returns to Loker Track Stadium for the Pac-12 Championships hosted by USC.
Should the Utes qualify for the NCAA Regionals (May 27-29), they'll head back to College Station and compete at E.B. Cushing Stadium before Oregon and Hayward Field plays host to the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 9-12.
