BACK IN ACTION: The Wildcats kick off their 2021 schedule with a road meet at Utah. Saturday's meet is the first of eight scheduled for the current campaign — they will compete once against each Pac-12 program and host one non-conference tri-meet before heading to the Pac-12 Championships to finish the year.
TOP 25: Arizona enters the 2021 season ranked No. 24 in the nation according to the WCGA Preseason Poll. It is the highest preseason ranking the Wildcats have earned under third-year head coach John Court. The GymCats are one of seven Pac-12 programs ranked in the WCGA's Top 25. Arizona finished the 2019-20 season ranked No. 27 by Road to Nationals, their highest finish since the 2016-17 season, and return nine letterwinners from last year's squad.
COACHING STAFF: The 2021 Wildcats are led by third-year head coach John Court, third-year assistant coach Taylor Spears, and first-year assistant coach Peter Jansson. Following decades of coaching across multiple levels of gymnastics, former Wildcats assistant coach of five years, David McCreary, announced his retirement in early January.
G-PAC: On Sunday, a group of Pac-12 gymnasts announced the formation of G-PAC, or "Gymnasts for Peace, Action, and Change." G-PAC facilitates an environment where diversity and inclusion is both welcomed and encouraged. The Wildcats are represented on the student-athlete driven organization by sophomore Sirena Linton. STATE 48: The Wildcats 2021 roster features six student-athletes from the state of Arizona, including three local products hailing from Tucson: freshman Madison Courney, junior MacKinzie Kane, and freshman Halli Mayberry. The six Arizonans represent nearly a third of the Wildcats roster.
FAMILIAR FACES: Arizona returns nine letterwinners from last year's team. The Wildcats showed steady improvement throughout the 2019-20 season and ended the campaign ranked No. 23 nationally in both vault and bars. Leading the returners are sophomore Malia Hargrove and junior MacKinzie Kane, two standout gymnasts who competed in all 11 of the Wildcats meets last year. Three other returners competed in 10-of-11 meets.
