UW (2-11, 1-7 P12) vs. Utah (6-6, 3-5 P12)
Washington continues its weekend against the mountain schools taking on Utah on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena. The game will be televised by ESPNU with Roxy Bernstein and Corey Williams on the call. Additionally, fans can tune into KJR 950AM to hear Tony Castricone and Jason Hamilton on the official Husky Radio Broadcast. The two teams have already faced once this season in an early December meeting in Salt Lake City with the Utes taking the victory 76-62 on Dec. 3. Utah holds the series lead 17-11 with Washington winning the last meeting in Seattle, 62-45, on Feb. 20, 2019.
The Coach (65-50 at UW/4th Year)
Head Coach Mike Hopkins is in his fourth year at Washington, and fourth as a head coach after becoming the 19th head coach in UW history. During his 22 years as an assistant at Syracuse, Hopkins was a part of teams that reached the NCAA Tournament 16 times including the 2003 National Championship, four Final Fours, five Elite Eights and 10 Sweet 16s along with four NIT berths. Syracuse never dipped below a 55.0 percent record while Hopkins was on staff. Hopkins is a two-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year, winning the honor in each of his first two seasons with the Huskies as he led UW to back-to-back 20 win seasons with postseason appearances each year. Quick Hitters
• Marcus Tsohonis had a career-night in efficient fashion as he scored a career-best 27 points in 27 minutes on 9-of-13 shooting from the field including 4-of-6 from three and was perfect from the FT line (5-of-5)
• Washington had four players score in double figures for the second-straight game and three players or more for the fifth-straight game
• UW's 84 points scored against Colorado were its most this season and its most since it had 90 at Arizona State last season on March 3.
• UW hit a season-high 12 from 3-point range against Utah and over the last two games have combined for 22 from long distance ... the last time UW hit at least 12 from 3 was against Arizona on Jan. 30, 2020 when 14 were made ... prior to the California game, UW had not hit more than eight threes in a game
• Junior transfer Erik Stevenson has upped his scoring output over the last four games, leading the team in that span averaging 17.7 points per game, shooting 44.2 percent from the field and 51.6 percent from 3. Prior to the California game, Stevenson had only made four from long distance, he has since made 16 over the last three games
• From 3-point range, UW has been shooting 44.9 percent over the last four outings compared to its season percentage of 30.9
• Redshirt sophomore Nate Roberts is currently sixth in the Pac-12 in rebounding pulling down 7.0 per game
• UW has three players now that have recorded 20-point efforts in Green, Stevenson and Tsohonis, with Green and Tsohonis putting up multiple 20-point nights
• UW has had at least three players in double figures in each of the last four games ... in the previous eight games, UW only had three games with three double-figure scorers
• Quade Green has recorded four 20-point scoring efforts this season with his most recent coming against UCLA as he posted 25 points ... the last player with four 20-point games in the first 10 outings of the season was Jaylen Nowell in 2017-18
• With his five assists against Colorado, Quade Green now has 124 career assists at UW in just 28 games ... averaging 4.4 a game while being a Husky
• Wright currently has 120 career blocks which is sixth all-time at UW ... he is now 18 behind fifth place (137, Malik Dime) and 67 behind the UW record of 186 (Matisse Thybulle and Christian Welp)
• Under Coach Hopkins, the Huskies' 2-3 zone defense has helped the Dawgs record the top two FG% defense marks in the last 44 years (dating back to the 76-77 season) holding teams to 38.1% (2019-20) and 41.6% (2018-19)
