LOS ANGELES — The No. 1 USC men's tennis team is lined up as host of ITA Kickoff Weekend competition for the 13th straight year as the Trojans have an eye on securing a 13th consecutive spot at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Defenders of the 2020 title, USC has extra motivation to make another power move to the elite team tournament this year.
The path back to championship territory begins once again at USC's own Marks Stadium, where the Trojan host three other teams for the two-day event, running Jan. 23-24. Coming across town for the competition is No. 18 UCLA, while California makes the journey southward from Berkeley, and UNLV joins in from out-of-state. On Saturday (Jan. 23), the day is due to begin with UCLA and Cal facing off at 10 a.m., while USC and UNLV are set to clash at 3 p.m.
The losing teams from Saturday are scheduled to square off in the Consolation Match at 10 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 24), with the Championship Match between Saturday's winners set for 3 p.m. The winner of that match will secure its place at next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Urbana, Ill.
USC enters 2021 dual-match competition not only as the nation's top-ranked team, but also with the nation's top-ranked singles player in Daniel Cukierman and top-ranked doubles team in Cukierman and Riley Smith. In all, USC has five Trojans ranked in singles and two ranked doubles teams.
No fans will be in attendance at Marks Stadium this weekend, but all matches will have a live scoreboard and live video for each court available HERE .
With inclement weather a possibility this weekend, any schedule adjustments will be announced via Twitter @uscmenstennis as updates are available.
