Team Cardinal Takes USC Men's Intra-Squad Meet
Team Cardinal emerged victorious as they defeated team Gold during the second day of the USC men's swimming Intra-squad meet on Saturday (Jan. 23.)
USC was originally scheduled to compete against Arizona yesterday and today (Jan. 23), but a COVID-19 protocol issue within the Arizona program led to the meet's cancelation.
Team Cardinal opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as Jack Kirby, Justin Lum, Alexei Sancov and Billy Cruz Zuniga posted a 1:29.84 to take the event.
Newcomer Cruz Zuniga championed the 50y free, touching in 20.67 to bring in more points for team Cardinal. Nikola Miljenic was second in 20.70, Jan Collazo Torres third in 21.09 and Kirby fourth in 21.17.
Junior Jackson Odgers won the 400y IM, taking the event with a time of 4:06.87. Ivan Puskovitch touched second in 4:17.43.
Cardinal member Alexei Sancov dominated the 200y free, finishing in 1:37.54, almost four seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Dom Margarino (1:40.89.)
Harry Homans won the 200y back in 1:46.72 while Kirby was second in 1:48.28.
Justin Lum took the 200y breast, finishing in 2:03.41. Mario Koenigsperger (2:05.41) was second.
The Trojans will tentatively travel to the bay area next weekend to take on Pac-12 rivals Stanford and Cal. All meets are currently TBD as COVID-19 safety protocols remain priority.
