Men’s Golf Kicks off 2021 at Southwestern Invitational
BERKELEY – California men's golf officially commences its 2021 campaign on Monday, Jan. 25 when the Golden Bears begin the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club.
The 3-day tournament will take place from Jan. 25-27 in Westlake Village, CA art North Ranch C.C., a par-72 course. The field will consist of 12 teams: Pepperdine (host), Arizona State, Augusta, California, East Tennessee St., Georgia Tech, Saint Mary's San Diego State, San Jose State, SMU, USC and Louisville. The tournament will be broadcast live beginning at 1:30pm on Golf Channel with play beginning at 7:38am.
Here is how the Bears' lineup will look:

3. Sebastian Iqbal
4. Sampson Zheng
5. Connor Golembeski
The Bears will be paired with individuals from Pepperdine, Georgia Tech and San Diego State in the opening round.
Cal's lineup has three newcomers to the team this season: Du, Iqbal and Zheng. All three were part of last year's signing class. Du ranked as high as 18th in the Rolex AJGA rankings last year while competing at Lake Mary Preparatory High School in Florida and he is a two-time AJGA All-American. Zheng had numerous top-5 finishes during his prep career at The First Academy in Orlando, led his team to an FHSAA Class 1A State Championship in 2019 and he was named the team's most valuable player in 2017. Meanwhile, Iqbal comes to Cal as a sophomore transfer from University of Wisconsin. Last season, he competed in all five fall tournaments and in both of the spring events with the Badgers. His best finish was a tie for 29th at the Bearcat Invitational (September 30-October 1) where he set a career-low 54-hole score of 217.
