Trio of Bruins Shoot 70 in Round One of The Match in the Desert

GOLD CANYON, Ariz. - Sophomores Emilie Paltrinieri, Emma Spitz and Annabel Wilson all shot 2-under 70s on Sunday in round one of The Match in the Desert at the Superstition Mountain Golf Club. The trio are tied for fourth, two shots back of the individual lead held by Arizona State's Alexandra Forsterling (-4, 68).

As a team, the Bruins shot a 5-under 283 and are in second place, five shots back of ASU (-10, 278). Denver sits in third (E, 288), while Arizona is competing with individuals only.

Wilson had a bogey-free round on Sunday, making birdies on the par-4 sixth and the par-5 14th, adding 16 pars.

Paltrinieri made four birdies, including a pair on par-3s (No. 4 and 17). She also made a three on the par-4 7th and a four on the par-5 10th, adding two bogeys.

Spitz posted three birdies, including going back-to-back on the par-4 sixth and seventh holes. She added another on the par-5 14th, making just one bogey. Junior Phoebe Yue shot a 1-over 73 and is in 12th place. She made four birdies on No. 6, 10, 11 and 14, adding three bogeys and a double. Junior Simar Singh recorded a 2-over 74 and is in 13th place. She tallied three birdies on No. 11, 13 and 15, three bogeys and a double.

Round two tee times are yet to be finalized.
