Bears Tied for 7th After Opening Round At Southwestern Invite

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The Golden Bears are tied for seventh after a windy first round of the Southwestern Invitational.
 
Freshman Sampson Zheng is currently leading Cal, tied for 18th after shooting a 75 (+3) on Monday. Zheng collected three birdies in a row on holes 11-13 including this one. Currently second for the Bears is freshman Aaron Du whose 76 (+4) puts him in a tie for 23rd. Both senior Finigan Tilly and sophomore Sebastian Iqbal are one stroke behind Du (77, +5), tied for 28th.
 
As a team, Cal is tied for second in par-3s with an average score of 3.20 while Zheng's average 2.75 is tied for the lead. Furthermore, sophomore Connor Golembeski's five birdies are ranked second amongst all competitors.
 
The Bears will begin the second of three rounds on Tuesday at 10:20am when Golembeski tees off with group six.
