Track And Cross Country Return This Week

Jan 26, 2021

SEATTLE – Track is back, and cross country is right on its heels. The Husky track and field and cross country teams finally have a path back to competition, after being out of action since February of 2020, and the first meets are just days away.
This winter, the NCAA for the first time is holding the indoor track and field season concurrently with the cross country season, which was postponed from the fall due to the Covid pandemic. Washington is now set to dive in to both, as the schedule has taken shape.
The Dempsey will host a three-meet schedule starting this Friday and Saturday with the UW Indoor Preview. The UW Invitational will be held on Feb. 12-13, and the Husky Classic will take place over Feb. 25-27. Limited fields are expected to include the full Washington State squad as well as the BYU women's team.
No fans will be permitted at the indoor meets, however will be providing live streams once again.
Early plans are for field events to take place on the first day of each meet and the track events on the second day. Event schedules are still being finalized.
Cross country action is also set to return early next week, as the Huskies make the first of two straight trips to Las Vegas. A pair of races hosted by UNLV, one this coming Monday, Feb. 1, and the next on Feb. 19, will be the build-up to the Pac-12 Championships, which Washington has stepped in to host on March 5 at Chambers Bay.
It will be the first time UW has hosted the Pac-12 Championships since 2010, and its first time hosting a meet at Chambers Bay in University Place.
The Regional meet has been taken out of the equation this season, so after Pac-12s it will be straight to the NCAA Championships, hosted by Oklahoma State on March 15.
